HARLEM / METZ ROAD CORRIDOR, Monterey County — October 31, 2026. The City of Soledad advertised a 2026 street-maintenance contract involving a portion of the Metz Road intersection within city limits. The solicitation, City Project T26-05, opened in late September and requested bids by October 9, 2026.
What streets are in the job?
The September 28 published bid notice describes about 11,300 linear feet of pavement maintenance on Gabilan Drive, Orchard Lane and a part of the Metz Road intersection. Proposed work includes crack sealing, Type II slurry sealing, isolated pavement replacements, utility-box adjustments and refreshed thermoplastic markings, crosswalks and bicycle markings.
The city solicited contractor proposals. That is not evidence that the contract was awarded or that crews finished pavement work in October. Readers should request the bid tabulation and executed contract for the latest status.
Does this mean Metz Road at Harlem is getting slurry seal?
No such conclusion is supported. Harlem is a historic rural siding farther along Metz Road near Bluejay Lane, while the described job covers specific streets and an intersection within Soledad. City-maintained roads and county rural road G15 have different owners and maintenance programs. A contract naming Metz Road does not cover its entire length.
How to confirm roadwork
For city limits, request Soledad project T26-05 plans, award and closure dates; for a rural section near Harlem, contact Monterey County Public Works and give the exact cross street. Check road notices before travel and respect active work-zone markings.
